Fort Wilkins History Interpreter Needs Place To Stay

From George Wagner June 1, 2009.

"Great Website! My name is also George, and I'm a Houghton native. I'm writing to you because I've been hired to work up at Fort Wilkins as a historical interpreter this summer and am currently hunting for a place to stay. All of the places I've talked to so far are counting on 70$ a night summer tourist rates. I was curious if you have heard or know anybody in Eagle Harbor who is looking for a renter or where a good place to look may be. Thank you so much for your time, any information would be greatly appreciated.. keep up the good work on the site, there's some really great stuff up there!"

The Death of Carol Engelman

From Charles Garrow on February 6, 2009.

George, didn't know if you were aware of Carol's passing. She loved the camp and will be buried up there in the spring.

Friday, January 2, 2009

On Dec. 31, 2008, the world lost a wife, a mother, and a nurse. Carol Engelman unquestionably filled all of those roles to their fullest.

Her role as a wife was that of love. With one gaze into her deep brown eyes, Max knew that they were a match made in heaven. One could only be so fortunate to find such a loving, kind and compassionate person.

As a mother, her love was paramount. Raising three children, Adam, Zach and Alex, is never a straightforward task. However, finding a way to do it with genuine kindheartedness while also instilling life-long morals is. Though she is no longer with us, she has no doubts that her children will be smart, caring and morally sound.

Carol’s passion was her job as an emergency room nurse. As a nurse, her beautiful smile commonly washed away most ailments while her gentle hands cared for the actual wounds. No matter the patient, Carol’s intelligence mixed with compassion led her to be the best possible nurse she could be. It is evident that Carol will be deeply missed not only by her family, but by anyone who had the fortunate opportunity to be graced by her presence. She was and will always be an angel among mortals.

There will be a public visitation at Stone Funeral Home in Petoskey from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 3. A private service for the family is planned.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer a contribution toward the Engelman Education Fund.
