First Annual Eagle Harbor Inn/Eagle Harbor Store Halloween Pumpkin Art Festival!

I watched a young boy scamper excitedly up through the pumpkins on Halloween morn, turn, and flash a big grin as his mom took his picture in the Harbor's Halloween pumpkin patch. Made my day! After Thursday evening's "blow out" due to high winds, the Friday and Halloween evening weather settled down and the 40 plus Jack-O-Lanterns filling the Harbor Store steps were a sight to behold. Seemed as if everyone in the Harbor and many from Keweenaw drove or strolled by to marvel at the skill of the carvers and the wonderful variety of happily glowing pumpkins. Several proud carvers stopped to check out the competition and chat about how much fun they had preparing their pumpkins for the Festival. Special thanks to event co-sponsors Patti Crampton and Mary Probst, who also served as judges and braved the cool mist of Friday eve, seeking just the right award category for each of the gorgeous gourd contestants. Good neighbors and volunteer firemen Joe Monroe and Bruce Olson tended the pumpkin patch each evening, making sure that candles burned brightly through wind and mist. Always helpful Fred Kellow produced the beautiful event posters and award certificates. The biggest kudo, of course, goes to the many who created and carved the real stars of our show, the pumpkins. The First Annual Eagle Harbor Pumpkin Art Festival - of little note in the mighty affairs of state, but oh so sweet for the soul!
