REGULAR MEETING MINUTES

JANUARY 12, 1998

MEETING CALLED TO ORDER: 7:00 PM by Supervisor, Jim Boggio

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

MEMBERS PRESENT: Jim Boggio, John Clarkson, Gerald Johnson, Donald Keith, Nancy Sherk

MEMBERS ABSENT: None

MINUTES: Motion to approve, Keith, supported by Johnson, vote unanimous. One change was made:

Under Committee Reports, VFD, change word ‘unhappy’ to ‘concerned’.

TREASURER’S REPORT: December and January reports were reviewed and accepted.

APPROVAL OF BILLS: Reviewed; motion to approve, Keith, supported by Johnson, vote unanimous.

One change was made: The bill for the reflector signs should come out of the

General Fund rather than the VFD Fund. And Clarkson to check with

insurance company about covering the cost of the water pumphouse block

heater.

SUPERVISOR’S REMARKS AND CORRESPONDENCE:

• The township expresses their deepest sympathy for the loss of the following township residents who recently died: Bruce Armstrong, Helen Ryan, and Bill Baird.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Volunteer Fire Department - Mike Radigan (Absent)

Water & Well-head Protection Committee - John Wakeman

- Committee is working on setting up a meeting date to draft an ordinance

Cemetery Committee - John Pippenger (Absent)

- Boggio reported that the township is currently purchasing a 50’ x 500’ piece of property along side of

the cemetery’s north boundary

Solid Waste Committee - Bruce Olsen

- Boggio would like the board to consider purchasing a 2nd dumpster after the current bill is paid. No

further action was taken.

Beach Committee - Vacant

Recreation Committee - Barb Sickler (Absent)

OLD BUSINESS

• Long-term plan for use of recreation grant funds: Boggio requested this item be removed as

‘old business’ since the township now has requested, at a recent county board meeting, to be

included with the county’s recreation plan.

 Progress of VFD special assessment for purchase of new pump tank firetruck: Clarkson has received (2) firetruck quotes, which have a 45-day expiration date from date of quote.

• Part-time/full-time Solid Waste Manager and Maintenance Person: A ‘help-wanted’ ad was placed in the Mining Gazette soliciting applicants. Few people called inquiring about additional information. The board discussed the fee schedule for this position. A motion by Sherk, supported by Johnson, vote unanimous, except Clarkson, he obstained, to set a rate of $10.00 per hour for the solid waste manager and $10.00 per hour for the general maintenance manager and $12.00 per hour for skilled maintenance manager at the discretion of the supervisor.

• Property along Eliza Creek: Property is being purchased for $4,000.00 with $2,000.00 coming from

the county and $2,000.00 from the township. Paperwork for this transaction, as well as the other

purchases mentioned above, are at the title company.

NEW BUSINESS

• Appointment of Planning Committee for restroom construction: Boggio asked for volunteers, but no one came forward. He will continue to solicit volunteers.

• Board of Review Seminar: There will be several board of review seminars available to anyone wanting to attend, especially the ‘Board of Review’ members. Times and locations are available by contacting Jim Boggio, Supervisor.

PUBLIC COMMENT

• Copper Harbor has invited Eagle Harbor Township to attend their ‘winter’ monthly ‘Pot Luck’ get-togethers, beginning January 28, 1998, Wednesday evening, at 6 PM. Bring your own table setting, and a dish to pass, coffee to be provided.
