OLD BUSINESS
- Eagle Harbor School House: Reviewed bid to
repair foundation as submitted by Kesanen Excavating dated 11-2-96
(the only bid received) in the amount of $2,480.00 (see bid on
file). Motion to accept, Clarkson, supported by, Johnson, vote
unanimous
- Solid Waste Facility: Eagle Harbor Township
is interested in 'leasing' property to interested applicants,
not 'selling' property, as posted in previous township meeting
minutes.
- Landfill Manager Position: There are no interested
applicants at this time. 'Volunteer' system may be necessary.
Liability issues to be discussed with Hannula Insurance Co.
NEW BUSINESS
- Hannula Insurance meeting: Clarkson to meet
with Mr. Hannula to discuss several issues. A report will be
presented at the February Township meeting.
- Flood Plain Area: Correspondence received was
given to resident, Jean Olson for review and to act upon, if applicable.
- MDOT Right of Way Permit Application: Annual
permit for miscellaneous operations within free access state trunkline
right of way was reviewed and signed by Boggio. To be sent in
and placed on file.
- WUPPDR adopted a proposed new amendment to add
the Wood Island Landfill, located in Alger County, for primary
disposal of Houghton & Keweenaw counties municipal solid
waste. The board approved to accept the proposed amendment.
Motion to accept, Van Pelt, supported by Johnson, vote unanimous.
Send acceptance to WUPPDR.
- Letter dated 12-13-96 from property owner, John
B. Weiss, regarding property boundry discrepancies: The board
reviewed his letter (on file), discussed matter with surveyor,
Robert Crampton, and decided to take the matter to our attorney
for further consultation. Motion was made by Clarkson, supported
by Johnson, vote unanimous
- Resolution to electronically pay fixed township
bills, such as UPPCO, to avoid late payment charges. Motion to
accept, Van Pelt, supported by Johnson, vote unanimous
- 'Open House', at the recently renovated township
offices, is scheduled for Jan. 31, 1997 from 5pm - 6:30pm. Refreshments
to be served.
- Assessor School: Clarkson to attend a 13-week
class in Ewen, MI. Costs attached to the class to be paid by
township.
- Two Eagle Harbor representatives to be selected
to serve on a Youth Academy committee. Boggio to meet with Gary
Bennett, from the academy, regarding this matter.
PUBLIC COMMENT
- Assessor Report: Eagle Harbor is currently at
a $15 million assessed value; needs to be adjusted to $16,996
million based on Equalization Study. Adjustments were made to
the following: 1) 10% added to all structures, 2) waterfront
property from the village eastward, and 3) Champion Co. (Lake
Superior Land Co.) Lake Medora area.
