CALL TO ORDER AND PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: The regular meeting of the Eagle Harbor Township Board was called to order at 7 p.m. on May 14, 2001 by Supervisor Boggio at the Eagle harbor Township Hall on Center Street in Eagle Harbor. Supervisor Boggio led the Pledge of Allegiance.

MEMBERS PRESENT: Supervisor Boggio, Clerk Olson, Treasurer Johnson, Trustees Ellis and Lantz

MEMBERS ABSENT - None

AGENDA APPROVAL AND ADDITIONS - Supervisor Boggio added County Commissioner Don Keith to the Agenda. MM/S Olson/Johnson to approve the agenda with that addition. 5 Ayes, 0 Nays - Motion Carried.

CONSENT AGENDA APPROVAL - MM/S Johnson/Ellis to approve the consent agenda as presented.

• Approve minutes from April 9 regular meeting
• Approve minutes from April 9 special meeting
• Accept Treasurer’s report
• Approve payment of bills

• The Volunteer Fire Department has been reimbursed $189 for participation in fighting the Rice Lake fire last summer.

BEACH COMMITTEE – Fred Geis-Absent-No report

Thanks to Don Keith for his many years of service as cemetery sexton.

Cemetery Cleanup will be Sun May 20 at 1 p.m.

Memorial Day Service will be at the Cemetery Mon May 28 at 10 a.m. Small

flags will be placed on veteran’s graves on Sunday at 1 p.m. Helen Knight

has offered to serve Coffee and Cookies at the Township Hall after the

Service.

The cemetery sign has been repaired and painted by Doug & Ginny

Schubert and is ready to be put in place.

Volunteers are needed to help verify grids in the cemetery. Contact Ginny

Schubert if you can help.

SEXTON COMMENTS –Mike Braman – There are 3 burials scheduled for this spring.

HEBARD PLAT COMMITTEE – Jeane Olson – The Committee has been meeting with the Township Attorneys and has been in contact with some of the property owners in an effort to resolve the problems of the Plat. A copy of the report is attached.

LAND USE COMMITTEE - Doug Sherk – Absent - No Report

911 COMMITTEE - Doug Schubert – The readdressing company has been in the area and is proceeding with the project.

PARK COMMITTEE – George Hite – No Report

RECREATION COMMITTEE – Barb Sickler – Absent – No Report

SOLID WASTE COMMITTEE – Bruce Olson – Summer hours at the solid waste site begin May 15.

VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT – Mike Radigan – Ed Stoneman requested reimbursement for the insurance that the fire department has paid on the antique fire Truck that was taken out of service several years ago. The Clerk will check on how long the truck has been out of service and what the insurance premiums were and the Fire Department will be reimbursed.

WATER COMMITTEE – John Wakeman – Absent – No Report

WATER SYSTEM OPERATOR – Rick Finke – Absent - No report

WELLHEAD PROTECTION – Rick Finke - Absent – No Report

• Cemetery Ordinance – The Cemetery Ordinance Amendment concerning the $50 interment fee has been published and will take effect July 1, 2001.

• Schoolhouse Floor – The schoolhouse floor needs to be redone and the building will not be useable for up to 2 weeks after the finish is applied. Signs will be posted on front and back doors.

• Keweenaw Academy Advisory Board – Keweenaw Academy is restructuring its advisory board and would like one representative from Eagle Harbor Township. Dick Lantz was appointed to fill this position.

• Resolution to Michigan Public Service Commission – The 911 committee requested that the Townships adopt a resolution asking the MPSC to revise and reissue the "Quality of Service Standard for Telecommunication Services" including provisions to assure the telephone company maintain telephone service during power outages and that a penalty be associated with failure to comply on a per customer basis. The resolution was offered by Tom Ellis and seconded by Jeane Olson. Roll call vote: Ayes - Boggio, Olson, Johnson, Ellis, Lantz. Nays – None. Supervisor Boggio declared the resolution adopted.

• Joint Resolution to Census Bureau - because 70 residents of Keweenaw Academy were counted in Houghton Township instead of Eagle Harbor Township both Townships have to pass a joint resolution to reallocate these residents in order to receive the proper amount of revenue sharing funds. The resolution was offered by Jeane Olson and seconded by Ann Johnson. Roll call Vote: Ayes – Johnson, Boggio, Lantz, Ellis, Olson. Nays - None

• USDA Report on Fire Truck Loan – Ann Johnson presented the annual report to the USDA. MM/S Olson/Ellis to accept and submit the report to USDA as presented.

• Building Permits – The Township will be receiving copies of all building permits issued in the township. This will help track construction and development in the township. The Supervisor would like someone to check on these building sites and keep the board informed.

• Copper Country Volunteer Fire Department Tournament – The Board requests notification if the Volunteer Fire Department is going to enter the fire trucks in the parade.

• County Commissioner Don Keith - Commissioner Keith expressed appreciation for the MPSC resolution for 911.

• The Supervisor asked if anyone had any public comment.

No one responded.

• Adjournment – MM/S Lantz/Ellis to adjourn. Ayes – 5, Nays – 0. The meeting was adjourned at 8:29 p.m.
