MINUTES: June 9, 1997 reviewed. Two corrections to be made; 1) under 'New Business,

Green Thumb program, add, "vote unanimous" and 2) under 'Antique Fire Truck'

correct the spelling of Clarence Monette. Motion to accept corrected minutes,

Van Pelt, supported by Johnson, vote unanimous.

TREASURER'S REPORT: Reviewed and accepted

APPROVAL OF BILLS: Reviewed July expenditures; motion to accept, Van Pelt, supported

by Keith, vote unanimous

SUPERVISOR'S REMARKS AND CORRESPONDENCE:

• A Liquor Fund expenditure explanation was given: Per the advice of our accountant, Jukari,

it was explained that the fund could be used on additional police protection. If the money

were left in that account, the state could tax us on the dormant money.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Volunteer Fire Department - Mike Radigan (Nothing to report)

Water & Well-head Protection Committee - John Wakeman (Absent)

Cemetery Committee - John Pippenger (Absent)

• Boggio is talking to Champion Land Company about purchasing additional cemetery

property north of the cemetery.

Solid Waste Committee - Bruce Olson

• Second request notices are being sent out to those who are delinquent in their payment

of garbage fees.

Beach Committee - Fred Kellow (Absent)

Recreation Committee - Barb Sickler

• Many 'thanks' to everyone who volunteered their time, to those who made

donations, and to those who participated in the events to make this such a

successful event.

• The 'Little Tot Swing' and 'Little Digger' playground equipment have been ordered

and will be installed soon.

OLD BUSINESS

• Solid Waste Facility: Boggio gave an update of the construction of Bill Jackson's building for

the cable TV system.

• Use of Copper Harbor's Waste Facility by selected Eagle Harbor residents: Boggio talked

to Tom Beveridge. Copper Harbor is talking about utilizing a 'pay per bag system'. No

further information is available at this time.

• VFD fire truck purchase: The committee, appointed at the last meeting, sent out a survey to all Eagle Harbor property owners. The purpose of the survey was to receive a feedback on how the property owners felt about this issue to aid the board in the action that should be taken. The results were presented to the board ( a copy is on file). The response rate was 30%. Of the 30%, 70% agreed of the need of a fire truck, 26% do not agree, 4% had other ideas or had no opinion. Comments were taken from the audience, but it was noted that this was not a 'Public Hearing'. Each member of the board expressed their thoughts, and a decision was made. The board will proceed. A resolution with the intent to hold two Public Hearings, with mailings and newspaper postings to purchase a $160,000 fire truck and establish a 'Special Assessment District' was made. If it is possible, the first Public Hearing will be held at 6:30 pm prior to the township's regular meeting of August 11, 1997. A roll call of this resolution was conducted: Keith, aye, Johnson, aye, Clarkson, aye, Van Pelt aye, and Boggio, aye. Boggio thanked the committee for the work they did on this survey.

NEW BUSINESS

• Restoration of Eagle Harbor's Antique Fire Truck: Boggio received a letter from Billy King who operates a company that paints signs on vehicles. They expressed a desire to restore

the fire truck at their own expense. A motion was made to accept their offer of restoration,

Keith motioned, supported by Clarkson, vote unanimous. After restoration, the vehicle will

be on display at the Calumet Fireman's Museum as previously motioned at the June

township meeting.

• Part-time/full-time Maintenance Person: Boggio suggested that the board think about possibly hiring someone to handle all of the Township's needs, (ei. water dept., cemetery, general maintenance, etc.) - to be discussed further at a later date.
