REGULAR MEETING MINUTES

August 14, 2000

MEETING CALLED TO ORDER: 7:00 PM by Supervisor, Jim Boggio

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

MEMBERS PRESENT: Jim Boggio, Donald Keith, Jeane Olson, Gerald Johnson, John Clarkson

MEMBERS ABSENT: None

APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING: MM/S Keith/Johnson to approve July 10, 2000 minutes. Vote 5-0. MM/S Olson/Clarkson for approval of minutes of the public hearing on Civil Infraction. Vote 5-0.

TREASURER’S REPORT: Report dated July, 2000 was accepted.

APPROVAL OF BILLS : MM/S Keith/Olson - Vote 5-0

SUPERVISOR’S REMARKS AND CORRESPONDENCE: Introduced Doug Sherk as the Deputy Supervisor. Bear problems: DNR is trapping them and removing them to other areas in the township. There was a good turnout for the primary election.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Volunteer Fire Department – Mike Radigan – Discussed use of the fire hall, options are 1. Fire Department would be in charge and would determine what township functions could be held in the fire hall. 2. The township would be responsible for determining who could use the fire hall for township functions and would work with the Fire Department in making their decisions. MM/S Clarkson/Johnson that the board will be notified of any activity and the board will decide who can use the hall. The Fire Department will be notified of the request. Vote 5-0.

Water & Well-Head Protection Committee – John Wakeman – The water rates will be reviewed this fall. The water board will call a meeting. Well-Head Protection Committee will meet August 24, 2000 at 10 AM. The water samples have been returned; water is safe to drink. Water usage last month compared to last year was 58,000 less due to the new construction.

Cemetery Committee – Ginny Shubert – Sign will be repaired.

Solid Waste Committee – Bruce Olson

Beach Committee – Fred Geist - Absent

Recreation Committee – Barb Sickler – One slide on the beach was sanded and sprayed.

No report on 911.

OLD BUSINESS

Referendum for Solid Waste collection fees to be put on tax bills. Would save on mailings of bills. Would be on the November ballot. MM/S Olson/Johnson Vote 5-0 to be put on November ballot.

John Clarkson reported that a special assessment district would be established for the Solid Waste. There would be no referendum.

NEW BUSINESS

Resolution to extend audit – MM/S Clark/Olson to extend audit. Roll call vote 5-0.

MM/S Keith/Olson – Eagle Harbor Board and Keweenaw County Historical Society will work together to pursue a Clean Michigan Interactive (CMI) grant in the amount of $12,000.

Fire Hydrant – correspondence – 12 new hydrants will be put in with the new development of Eagle Harbor South. Water and Fire Departments will investigate where they should be placed. They should make a recommendation at the next meeting.
